# L'Oréal Microsite Factory Pilot on Sitecore XM Cloud

**Customer:** L'Oréal

L'Oréal wanted to move more than 300 microsites off a mix of legacy CMSs and onto Sitecore XM Cloud. A two-week pilot showed how Kajoo.ai could turn that migration into a repeatable factory.

- **76%**: savings
- **2 weeks**: to complete
- **41 hours**: total effort
- **12 + 8**: components + variants across 3 brand sites

## At a glance

- **Client:** L'Oréal
- **Industry:** Beauty and consumer goods
- **Engagement:** Pilot program
- **Migration path:** WordPress, Drupal, and Typo3 to Sitecore XM Cloud, now SitecoreAI
- **Kajoo.ai workflows:** Migrate, Build
- **Delivery partners:** Sitecore and TechGuilds

## The challenge

L'Oréal's web presence spans 150 countries and more than 50 languages. Over 200 people manage more than 300 microsites, and those sites run on a number of CMS platforms, including WordPress, Drupal, and Typo3. Every platform brought its own workflows, its own maintenance overhead, and its own limits on how fast teams could launch.

L'Oréal wanted to unify its portfolio on Sitecore XM Cloud. But migrating 300+ sites one at a time would be slow, expensive, and risky. The company needed proof that a faster, repeatable approach could work before committing to it.

## The pilot

Sitecore and TechGuilds proposed a pilot built on Kajoo.ai with two goals: automate and accelerate the migration to XM Cloud, and stand up a microsite factory that L'Oréal's teams could use to launch and manage sites at scale. The pilot would test three things: feasibility, code quality, and operational impact.

Three brand sites were selected: Narta, DOP, and Biolage.

## How Kajoo.ai delivered

### Find what the sites have in common

The pilot began with a component-level analysis of all three sites. The goal was to identify which elements could be consolidated into a shared library instead of rebuilt separately for each brand.

### Make every component brand-aware

Those shared elements became a library of reusable components, each with variants that give it the flexibility to support any site layout. Every component carries contextual design variants that adapt automatically to the theme of the brand it's deployed on, so a single component library serves Narta, DOP, and Biolage while each site still looks like its own brand.

### Automate the heavy lifting

Kajoo.ai converted the existing sites into modern Jamstack code for XM Cloud and generated the bulk of the component code. Developers then focused their effort on the work that needs human judgment, such as adding interactive features.

### Hand the factory to the teams who use it

The result is a system built for content and marketing teams. They can launch new sites and publish content and campaigns from a shared foundation, without starting a new development project every time.

## Results

- **76% savings.** The pilot showed a 76% reduction compared to a conventional build.
- **Two weeks, 41 hours.** Three brand sites were delivered with 12 components and 8 additional variants.
- **About 2 hours per component.** That average includes the variants, and it's the unit economics that make a 300-site program realistic.
- **A clear platform decision.** The pilot gave L'Oréal the evidence it needed to confirm XM Cloud as the platform for its modernization.
